French political scientist and geopolitician Dominique Moïsi wins the Prix Vauban 2024

In partnership with GICAT, this year's Prix Vauban is awarded to Dominique Moïsi's book : The triumph of emotions published by Robert Laffont.

Paris, Thursday, December 12, 2024-  After Amin Maalouf for The labyrinth of the lost In 2023, Dominique Moïsi was awarded the Prix Vauban for his book The triumph of emotions at a reception held on Friday, December 6, 2024, at the Ecole Militaire in Paris.

Dominique Moïsi is one of France's leading specialists in international politics and geopolitics. His career has taken him into close contact with the most eminent specialists in his field, as well as the most influential political players in many countries, giving him a privileged perspective on the issues he tackles. He has taught at a number of prestigious universities and schools, both in France and abroad. His work and numerous publications, widely acclaimed even beyond our borders, and his articles in the international press make him a veritable "engaged spectator", to use Raymond Aron's oxymoron here, one who, caught up in the substance of geopolitics and, more particularly, of current events, manages to extract himself from them at the same time to be able to comment on them with the appropriate distance.

Like his previous publications, this new work provides an original and useful insight into an increasingly uncertain world, where the West is troubled by doubts about identity, the rise of populism and a strong polarization of its societies. Nevertheless, as he points out, many of our values remain relevant today, but it is up to us to devise a new way of preserving and promoting them. This could be the source of a new ambition for the West, or at least the key to its resilience.

The author said he was honoured to receive Le Vauban Prize created in 1973 by the IHEDN auditors  (Institut des Hautes Etudes de Défense Nationale) is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, and each year rewards a work that contributes to the promotion, illustration or development of the spirit of defense in the military, geopolitical, economic, scientific, diplomatic or political fields.

On this occasion, the Minister Delegate Jean-Louis Thiériot delivered a speech praising the mobilization of the vital forces of civil society as a whole, taking part in the action of reflection and influence of the Nation, through the various major sessions of the IHEDN. Similarly, the issues and measures defended by the GICAT (Groupement des Industries Françaises de Défense et de Sécurité terrestres et aéroterrestres), were put forward, such as the need to support defense industry financing and investment, and the sanctuarization of the amounts announced in the military programming law for fiscal year 2025.

GICAT, partner of this event, represented by its General Delegate Jean-Marc DuquesneIHEDN, thus renews its support for the IHEDN's ongoing efforts to inform, train and promote the spirit of defense and resilience among our country's senior public and private officials.
