UNAC wins the DGA «ROBIN» contract - the French Army's first mass-produced heavy robotics program.

Vergèze, France - UNAC has been awarded the contract by the Direction Générale de l'Armement (DOA) for the POBIN (P0Bot d'lNvestigation) system, a remotely-operated reconnaissance-class robot designed to equip all engineer regiments. This contract covers a maximum quantity of 3ñ systems and is the first series robotics program notified by the DGA for the French Army in this size and mass segment.

A system dedicated to doubt removal and investigation

ROBIN has been developed for use in potentially hazardous areas, particularly for IED detection, investigation, observation and handling of high-risk objects. The system incorporates a rotating articulated arm, capable of lifting 120 kg to 3.8 m, and equipped with specialized tools: tongs, claw, blowgun.

The arm is fitted with PTZ cameras for detailed observation, complemented by driving cameras positioned on the platform.

The system offers considerable mission autonomy.

ROBIN can be towed at high speed, in compliance with regulations, and can be towed by a Griffon multi-role armored vehicle.

Remote operation by Safran ELectronics & Defense

The ROBIN project is based on a structuring partnership with Safran Electronics & Defense, designated as the program's «robotization partner».

As part of the contract :

Safran Electronics & Defense assures :

  • Selection and supply of HMI hardware,
  • Complete development of the remote operation software,
  • Supply and management of on-board electronics.

UNAC provides :

  • Design, manufacture and assembly of the complete system,
  • Integration of arm tools,
  • Integration of teleoperation,
  • Series assembly.

A strategic program for French sovereignty

With this contract, UNAC, a 100 % French company, becomes the first defense manufacturer in France to mass-produce a robotized vehicle of this size for the French army. This program reinforces France's sovereignty in the field of remotely-operated investigation systems, by relying on a French industrial base and a platform already proven in operations.

A robot from the qualified Fardier platform

The ROBIN system has been developed on the basis of the Fardier platform, which has already been qualified, and retains all its mobility capabilities: crossing, fording, off-road mobility, air-transport compatibility.
