Sysnav honored for military research: Sysnav's localization solution in the spotlight

Vernon, October 9, 2025

«SYSNAV wins the 52ᵉ Prix AAT - Engineer General Chanson for its innovation LocIndoor, a system for locating the dismounted infantryman.»

At the FID (Forum innovation défense) in November 2025, Sysnav will receive an award from the Association de l'Armement Terrestre for its work on Locating the dismounted infantryman (LocIndoor project). David Vissière, founding president of Sysnav, will receive the AAT-Ingénieur Général Chanson 2025 award, presented by General Pierre Schill, Chief of Staff of the French Army.

Sysnav's LocIndoor project is part of the CENTURION innovation ecosystem of the French Defense Innovation Agency, designed to prepare the equipment of the combatant of the future. Sysnav's technology responds to a major challenge of modern military operations: tactical situation control through ultra-precise, continuous positioning of infantrymen, indoors and out without infrastructure and therefore even no GNSS (GPS) signals. In the military context, real-time localization (Blue Force Tracking) is a critical datum, often compromised by GPS jamming techniques or situations where GPS is unavailable (inside buildings, basements, etc.).

This ability to Blue Force Tracking considerably enhances the safety of soldiers in the theater of operations, providing them with real-time 3D positioning data. Sysnav thus improves tactical vision of command, warns fratricidal shooting and ensures quick relief of an infantryman in distress in the event of a «man down» alert.

LocIndoor is based on Sysnav's magneto-inertial navigation technology, a patented, innovative and hitherto unrivalled technology: dead reckoning coupled with absolute positioning. Thanks to the use of low-cost sensors from consumer electronics, and robust data fusion algorithms, the technology developed by Sysnav enables an infantryman to be located in any type of environment, without recourse to GPS. This lightweight (around 100g), cost-competitive device offers an autonomous navigation solution perfectly suited to infantrymen on operations.

This award recognizes the development of Magneto-inertial tachometer (TMI), which comes in the form of a hand-held sensor and provides autonomous, precise and robust localization, without infrastructure or GPS. Thanks to its algorithms and Sysnav's expertise in sensor calibration, the system achieves unrivalled accuracy, with an error of less than 1 % of the distance covered, performance maintained during crawling and crawling movements. Sysnav's technology is a strategic response to the growing need for PNT (position-navigation-time) technologies, which have become indispensable in modern military operations.

 About Sysnav :

Founded in 2008, Sysnav is an innovative French deep-tech company specializing in geolocation and motion capture technologies. Based in Vernon (Eure), the company develops revolutionary, infrastructure-free, high-precision navigation solutions for complex environments and GPS denial-of-service situations. Its patented magneto-inertial navigation enables us to meet critical needs in sectors such as pharmaceutical clinical trials, lone worker protection in industry, or airport anti-collision.

With 70% of its sales coming from exports, Sysnav, one of the top 3 SMEs in terms of patent filings, supplies the world with devices for measuring patient movement, and equips all the Aéroports de Paris as well as the radar vehicles of the French Ministry of the Interior.

 About the AAT Award:

Created in 1972, the AAT - Ingénieur Général Chanson Award pays tribute to Ingénieur Général Paul Chanson, a major figure in French armament and pioneer of the French nuclear program. Each year, the prize is awarded for scientific and technical work that has led to significant progress in the field of land armaments, combining innovation and practical application.
